    Default Nakayama Kiita Tomonagura

Hello all. I have learned much from reading posts here regarding jnats, particularly JimR. I will soon have a nice (hopefully) nakayama maruka kiita nishiji I splurged on. I will be using my naniwas up to 8k, then from there using this stone. I have one nagura, a mejiro. What should my process be? I could not find a koma nagura anywhere, but i have read JimR say this step is not necessary if you have a tomonagura. I do not have a tomonagura, and do not think i can purchase another of this same stone to produce a true tomonagura. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Will i get away with only the mejiro until dry; or mejiro, then only water? Or will I need a tomonagura? If so, what can I use as one?

With tomonagura, I guess what I am asking - this stone is (supposedly) an good finisher. If I use another, inferior stone to raise a slurry, doesnt this mean i will instead be honing with the tomongura? I do not want to use a diamond plate.

Thanks to all for the help so far.

Mejiro and then tomonagura should work fine.
If I use another, inferior stone to raise a slurry, doesnt this mean i will instead be honing with the tomongura?
Depends on which is harder, if the tomonagura is harder than the base stone then you will be honing on mainly slurry from the base stone.
If the base stone is harder then you will be honing on the tomonagura slurry, in this particular case it is very important to have a good tomonagura.

Thanks for the fast response! What do you think I should do for a tomonagura though?

You do not have to have a tomonagua of the same stone. You need to find one that is fine enough to suit your needs. Even if you get a piece that is slightly more aggressive than you want you can make it work as it will get finer as you work it. Other options are to try a barbers hone or an arkansas stone to release some of the kiitas own slurry.

If you had another finishing jnat you could just rub them together......

I agree with the other jnat, but was hoping to be able to find a solution for (relatively?) cheap. Are barbers hones and Arkansas stones that hard? It is very difficult to find small pieces of any jnat!

Some are, it is all relative to how hard you kiita is to, you just have to try and see. I think Mainaman has the best solution and getting one from someone who knows what they are doing will save you time and dissapointment. They are not that expensive normaly.

I visited maksim's site and found he had tomonagura, and allows a user to specify the type of stone at checkout. Hopefully he will have something for me. Too bad he is in Europe, it will probably be a while before i receive it. If all else fails, I guess I could always cut a slice off my stone. Regardless, thanks to all for your help. This is a great community.
