Default What a Long Strange Trip It's Been!

But first, I really must thank my mentor Roy Davis (cudarunner) who went out and bought me my first stones to get me started down this path (DMT 325, 800 King, 4/8 Norton and a stone holder, I later added a 1k King and a CNat). I repaid every cent he spent, but the show of friendship and the risk for a brother shaver say's worlds about the man. Thank You Roy!! I don't know if I ever say it enough to him directly, but every time I hone a razor and succeed I thank Roy!

    Happy Honing mates!!

I know that I'm a little off topic here but please indulge me!

Mike and I met because I’d read one of his posts and at the bottom was a ‘wish list’ included was a Friodur! I happened to have a 4/8 Friodur that was shave ready but it was smaller than what I preferred. I contacted Mike, sold it to him for exactly what I had invested in it and as they say, the rest is history!

Besides our interest in straight shaving, we found that we are very close to the same age, like the same music and our birthdays are right along side of each other!

Now back on track! Mike said “Who knew??? Who knew I could do any of this stuff.”

I knew! All Mike needed was a little help! I’m no Thurston Howell, I live pay check to paycheck, but I was able to help him! OH! The King 800 was a hone that I’d had for years; I simple sent it to him no cost!

Mike commented that he had paid me back every penny. Well folks, he’s a liar! He not only paid me back for helping him get started honing; He’s paid me back 20 fold! His friendship can’t be purchased! His computer knowledge has not only saved me many hours of frustration, but many, many dollars!

While we live many states apart, I still feel very close to him and always look forward to what he has to share with me about what’s going on in his life!

I will once again get off subject a little. When I first offered to financially help Mike, he said that he just couldn’t accept my loan. This is what I sent him. It was written by a very good friend who sent it to me after I had offered time and time again to pay him back for helping me! I think that it speaks Volumes about how we here at SRP are treating each other!

Glad I've been able to help. I have a story for you.

There once was a man who had a flock of sheep. As the time of shearing came around he was out in the pasture collecting his sheep. When he came home to shear them he discovered that his home was ransacked by a thief who not only took most of his belongings and all of his money, but his most prized possession of all -- his wool shears.

The man was greatly troubled by this. He must shear his sheep and sell the wool or he would starve. If he sold some of the sheep, then he would be able to shear the rest, but would not have enough to survive the following year. His neighbors were shepherds as well, but they had their own flocks.
Eventually he swallowed his pride and asked his neighbor if he could borrow his shears. The neighbor not only loaned him the shears, but stopped his own work to come over and help the man shear his flock. After much hard work, both men sheared all the sheep and they took their wool to market and sold it.

When they had been paid, the man handed some of the money to his neighbor telling him, "This is for the loan of your shears and for helping me shear my sheep." But the neighbor refused. The man was upset by this and insisted that the neighbor allow him to repay this debt.

To this the neighbor replied, "What you have received is the gift of my friendship. If you could repay it, it would no longer be a gift and I would be like one of your hired hands. Keep your money and use it to build your flock. Your joy has repaid me much more than money ever could." The two returned home from the marketplace with a much stronger friendship than they had ever had before. Remember, friendship is all the payment a friend ever needs.

There is never any debt between friends.

Cudarunner... everyone I've met thru straight shaving is that exact same way. For me it was pinklather. I can't say enough good things about not just his friendship, but his mentoring as a person. I only wish that one day we could meet in person.

You will have to take pictures and do a thorough side by side comparison for us to confirm or repute our suspicions.

By the way Mike, Tim, and Bobby have been great friends to me since starting this thread and the knowledge gained here is just part of the reward but the friendly comradery is by far the best part.

Great. When you find out the proper way to use it I'll be all ears.

    I need a little guidance.

Everyone's stone is different, with some comparable qualities. What are you having trouble with? What type of setup are you working with? Describe the characteristics of your stone and where you are having trouble, then we may be able to help.

I knew that I was off topic and I really appreciate the warning instead of a slap!

With that said I know in my heart that Mike and I would have a wonderful time together! Showing each other our razors, how we hone etc!

As I said that’s what I love about being a member of SRP!!
