Is this the correct DMT 325 for lapping?
Hi,
I've spotted a rather cheap DMT 325 which I think I'm going to pick up for lapping a set of Naniwa Superstones. Before I buy it, can someone just confirm that this sounds like the right product:
DMT Diamond Whetstone 150mm Plastic Case Blue 325 Grit Coarse

Thanks!

I don't think so. Many people here use the D8C. It's a 200mm length diamond plate with an uninterrupted surface. This one is 150mm.

Phew! Good job I didn't order it
I've found this one now:
DMT D8C Dia-Sharp Bench Stone - 8 Inch (Coarse)
Looks like its in stock, and it looks cheaper too

Thanked: 1195That's the one. But you may want to shop around - 50 quid is a bit steep.

Thanked: 11I just got a Veritas glass lapping plate and some 280 grit lapping powder for about 26 quid from Axminster. It made very short work of a 1000 grit Naniwa Superstone and the Chinese 12k that was high in the middle only took me about half an hour to flatten.

Thanked: 16I have seen these in stores, and they are small. 6x2 I think, and made with cheap plastic.
I purchased one of these about a month ago, and it was the best investment. This is a nice steel plate. I also like that there are no grooves in the face. Money well spent.

I'm very sorry to dig up this old thread, but I'm just about to order a DMT 325 D8C, and before I do I was hoping someone would confirm that this is 100% the right one for lapping my stones:
Dmt D8c Diamond Sharp Whetstone 8x3in - Coarse: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools
The other stuff I've been fine with ordering, but for some reason I think I'm going to end up ording the wrong DMT

You don't need an 8" one. I have a 6" I bought from sharpening supplies. You could even use a 4" one. Here is the link: 6" Dia-Sharp Diamond Stone
