Thread: Beginners, The 1k shave . . .

Finally sat down with a Norton 1k. After countless circles and rolling x strokes I felt like it was finally sharp enough. The razor would pop arm hairs at the skin, but I have come to the determination that my arm hairs are too fine and above the skin hair popping is just not in the cards.
The shave tonight started out surprisingly well. After a hot shower I used some MWF and went to work. Some areas were money (WTG sideburns XTG mustache), and I got a little tugging going WTG/XTG on my chin and right side of my throat but I blame that more on the lather drying up a tad.
Overall I think the bevel was successfully set and I will try this test on some other more reputable razors I have on queue.

Ok, finally did this with my TI Le Canadien 6/8" Carbonsong 135. I'll shave in a few, but wanted to document what I did before I forget:
30 circles each side with moderate pressure.
TNT was so-so
20 more circles each side moderate pressure.
TNT was good all along.
25 x-strokes moderate pressure - popping arm hair near the skin
20 circles each side with light pressure - popping arm hair near the skin
25 x-strokes with light pressure - popping arm hair near the skin easily
25 almost no pressure x-strokes - still popping air hair along the whole blade
25 on the balsa with Chromium Oxide
25 on the balsa with Iron Oxide
25 on SRD Webbing
50 on the 'roo

Aaaand that sucked.
Couldn't get through the first pass with it. It just wasn't sharp enough. I'll have to go back to square one. It didn't help that I had terrible lather. My shave mojo was just off tonight all around.

Not sure where you are going with that statement, I dont recall anyone trying to shave off their 4k during janorton (didnt follow it too closely though)
My first post of this thread references janorton.
I do believe it would be beneficial for all of us who tried the 1k and learned something from it, to try to improve their 4k aswell.
That being said I dont see any 4k challenge, do you?
