Success at last, success at last!
After a week of on and off honing one blade, I was very happy with the edge that came out on the Dovo 5/8 inox full hollow. If you want to see how I did it, check this post.
I will confess I was nervous as heck! The shave turn out amazing! The edge felt so smooth and sharp that I started to do scything motion on the chin and the mustache area for the first time. All the hairs where coming off. I couldn't believe it myself! And that's where it bit me, on the upper lip area. Had to stop the shave to stop the bleeding. Once bleeding stop, I continue with the shave for a BBS after touch ups. Needless to say, I'm very happy with myself, this forum and the people that help make this happen (videos, comments, etc etc etc). A Big Thank You! Double O

Thanked: 247Congrats!!! Nothing better than successfully honing your own straight razor and shaving with it! Except maybe successfully making, honing, and shaving with, your own straight razor. I doubt I was much help, but congratulations man!

Congratulations! It's a great feeling to get a good edge, although if you're anything like me you'll start thinking "If I can make it this good, I bet I could do even better..." and then you'll be back at the honing station at 3 in the morning

Great Job Mate!! I know the feeling only too well, as it was not that long ago that I experienced the same wonderful sensation of shaving with my own edge, and it didn't suck!!!
I've been where tlittle has been too, doing 4 razors in one day in a marathon, just because I could!!
Happy Shaving!!
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanked: 51Now that you've gotten to a shaving-edge once, finding your way back with another blade will be much easier. Furthermore, honing this razor was a trial by fire, and the lessons you learned while honing it will serve you well.

Thanked: 993Good for you.
Honing a blade from bevel to shave ready the first time is an incredible feeling. You have really accomplished something here. Just stop and think for a moment, how many people can hone a razor vs. how many people there are in the world. (compare this thought to 100 years ago, 200 years ago). You can give yourself a pat on the back.
