Thanked: 13249The absurdity of the HHT for anyone to use as a sharpness test who is not honing the razor, can be explained in these short statements from a new shaver over a few days time..
This is why I "Hate" the HHT because the wrong people use it..
1st post: First shave BTW
I've bought 2 razors. One has turned up the *******. I'm not confident it's "shave ready". It won't cut my face hair really, or pass HHT. I eithen got some hair and held it tight, didn't cut through that easily either.
Help
This post of course is followed by the normal "Who Honed it BS" and even a few explaining how to do a HHT and "It could be the hair is dry"
2nd post:
I touched up my shave an hour ago. Went better than the first shave. I think the razor could still be sharper though. If I'm still having problems in a week I may send it back and pay him to have a look at it.
EDIT: It is catching on my hairs, that may be the angle though, no?
Ahhh now we start seeing the realization that perhaps it is the guy in the mirror
3rd post: after being told the HHT varies from hair to hair
OK, just tried mine, the girlfriend's and our Son's. Mine "passed" theirs didn't
Hmmmmmm so those hairs make a difference "wow what a concept"
4th post: After being told to slow down and and do the easy parts first to learn how the razor handles (You know what Lynn has said for years on SRP) and to finish with your old system of shaving
OK, I did my cheeks and my moustache area. One nick (think it was a re-open of one already there) and quite a close shave. Finished my chin and neck with a disposable.
No razor burn and the alum block didn't hurt when I ran it over my face.
WHAT !!!! are you saying that all those hints and tips we put in the beginners section are correct???? No way really???
So as shown from just this Newbs experience, all with one razor, the HHT unless calibrated by the person honing the razor is what ????
Say it all together now "Useless"
Not sure but I bet if you search HHT you might just find that in a few of the 100's of HHT threads in fact it might be in here a few times

Tell you how bad it can get ..... I went to a beauty supply that sells human hair wigs .... Almost bought what they call a "fall" for $150.00 to use for HHT.
I would have had enough to last me 100 years .... Too cheap though so I'll stick with the longer hairs out of my hairbrush.

It is valid as a pre-shave test for personal use, because you generally keep the variables the same, and because you generally use the same hair. It is however a ridiculous test for comparing results between different persons. Making conclusions because someone else achieves HHT-3.14 with razor A and stone B while you only achieve HHT-2.71 is still silly.
