Thanked: 194congrats on the honing success! I am trying daily to hone my honing skills lol. It is a very tricky process but hopefully for me I will have a mentor soon. I have been chatting with my local honemeister and am getting up the nerve to ask him to give me a few one on one lessons. I would be willing to pay for them because every time I get a razor honed by him it gives me the most comfortable shave I have had. Great to hear your getting it done by yourself!!

Good shave no razor burn. That is a good thing.
You can now gauge the quality of your shave prep with
a little but not too much resistance.
Going forward touch up on your finest hone once a week
5-10 hone strokes and it will stay good.
New to you Swaty... do not lap flat. Just rinse and
hone with lather and a very light touch. My best Swaty
is glazed over and very shiny. YMMV.

If you move to one layer of tape from two it takes you back to
a 1k or a 4k hone.. i.e. you will need to reset the bevel.
With modern hones you could go with zero tape.
Anytime you feel a need to go back to the 1k or 4k hone
consider one less strip of tape.
Just be consistent.
Once you get a shaver you will no longer
need to visit the 1K hone for sure and the
4K may gather a lot of dust.
Since this is your first -- there are no hard and fast
rules. Just do not hone all your shavers at the same
time.
