    Default TI Evide Sonnat Extra

    Hi guys,

So a few days ago, I dropped my TI while shaving and bang! hit the sink edge right on the blade.

Looking at it, it has a very very slight concave… well I cant really call it a chip, it looks more as if it has just taken off the very edge of the cutting area. It seems to shave ok and I've been able to use it since but I think it's about time it needed a refresh on the hones anyway.

My question is, do I need to take it all the way back to the 1k and re-set the bevel, or can I just start with the 5k and do circles till I can't see the imperfection any more?

    Thanks

    -F

    Have a picture?

If you have a very shallow flat spot it may shave fine. If it's a chip or something that affects the shave you will have to hone it out. What you need to take it out will depend how far back it goes. if it's deep enough you will have to redo the bevel but without seeing it it's very difficult to advise.

These two photos show, dead on, the affected area catching the light.

as I said, not really a chip, so much as a… depression?

Looks like the edge folded over, thats why it shaves still fine, because that part doesn't shave at all, so it doesn't pull either

It will take some time to remove that, but nothing serious. I would start with a 1k untill it passes the TNT, and go up from there.

    Paintman,

I had a similar 'ding' on my C-135 full-hollow TI; I shaved with it like that for about a year with no ill effects (my, I am idle at times !!)

I eventually honed it out (I used a Naniwa 1k SS with circles). As the steel is quite hard, patience is a virtue here.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

    Russ

Do you really need that part of the razor to shave with
If it's not scratching your strop & you are patient it will eventually disappear with repeated touchups.
Myself I'd be looking at at a new bevel but I'm sick that way

If it shaves fine I'd let it be. Of course if it really bothers you, you can hone it out. I'd start high and see what happens and then fall back.
