Hm, I am pretty sure I can strop it on a hanging strop

Did you see the latest price - 450??? I am mad about the description as I am fairly certain Puma made more than one of these... Also, what is Authentic Tortue?

Anyway, not my cup of tea, even though I love Pumas

One of the old barber manuals says a "French wedge" should be stropped on a paddle strop, while hollow grinds should be stropped on a hanger.

heh, this means you'd need both for this razor... too much hassle I say.

And I have been stropping wedges on a hanger. Actually, I lay the strop on my countertop for the more hollow blades because I feel I can control pressure better

That grind is typically found on microtomes. Blades that are used in labs to prepare specimens for the micrscope. That might be what this is.

The Japanese razors are honed on both sides not just the concave side. You just have to do considerably more honing on the wedge side of the blade. Also the japanese Razors are more Convex on the other side.

    Default Universal Truth

    Raga,
There will come times in your sharpening/honing career when you will be confronted with something odd that you haven't heard of or seen before. The key to successfully sharpening something like that is to examine the edge under magnification. See what the manufacturer/designer intended by the scratch marks in the steel. Then emulate that. Only way to go wrong is if somebody screwed up and sharpened it wrong and is then selling it. Rarely happens but I saw it done once on a hewing hatchet (an antique American tool for middle dressing of a hewn log prior to adzing). Anyway, I can't stress enough the value of examining edges under magnification both prior and during a honing session.

This universal truth will carry you to the perfect edge.

Maybe this was some experimental design by Puma. Regardless, all that matters is the angle created by the back and edge. As long as the angle is correct, it should hone and strop like any other razor.
