Mostly not.... If I am honing a couple razors
I hone the first on a given grit then rinse it
and place it down "flipped" for the next razor.
I do not lap to flat for each razor especially when
the razors have been shaving well (i.e. modest
    honing and touch up needed).

I have an extra extra coarse DMT to lap my
hones flat and it leaves some "trenches". Since
this DMT is 120micron the "trenches" are at most
about half of that... I can watch them vanish
as I use the hone and when they are gone it
is about time to lap for flat again. Swarf does not
build up in the "trenches". Time and time this
reminds me that lapping flat each time is not needed.
Exceptions are my soft coarse Norton water stone hones.

This is very easy to see on a Norton 8K... I can touch up
a full seven day set and not have these telltale scratches
on the hone vanish. Other hones show this too....

I do take a very very well worn coarse DMT to the hone
after lapping it flat because the OCD part of me thinks I
should soften the surface. Slurry after a XXC DMT is not
good for honing razors I always rinse it off. If I want
slurry I use a medium credit card DMT or an old pocket
    Arkansas stone.

When I do rolling strokes I flip regularly. With flat strokes I don't worry so much.

...actually, sometimes I do, but only when I think of it. My thought is usually more of the blade, that it experience more uniform honing.

Now strop flipping, that's just a cry for help.
Hello, my name is mapleleafalumnus and I'm a stropping addict. I first stropped in 1996, and I realized I might be addicted a several years ago when I realized I could keep a perfect cadence to the William Tell Overture.

    I must be older -- I am a 45 and 78 rpm guy myself.
45 for the short touch up.....
78 for the more serious refresh....
If I must resort to 33 I consider sending it out.

BTW one of my favorite 78s was a Spike Jones creation......

Now do not slip while stropping to this....

I"M a Flipper from WAY back, OK, about 3 years, but that doesn't give an idea about me honing experiance as I only do my razors when needed, that's not a lot of honing compared to a honmiester of the cloth!!

    Again, yes.
