Thanked: 15What would you do?
I have this TI Le Dandy 4/8 on the way in the mail.It has a factory edge,if it does not shave well how would you polish that factory edge?I have a Norton 4/8 and an SRD modular paddle with .5 diamond spray on wool felt and CrOx crayon on scrub leather. These tools have worked well on a Jenco 4/8 and Imperial 5/8 full hollow. What combo of these tools do I use to polish a new factory TI edge, thoughts?

Thanked: 13245Probably both, some of the TI edges can be very close, they have been getting better over the last few years,, With the Diamond to cut and the CrOx to smooth and cut just a tiny bit it might get you a comfortable shave.. Try Linen /Leather first then try the Diamond and Linen and Leather then if needed add the CrOx followed again by Linen and Leather...
There is also the distinct possibility that the edge will have very weak bevels and all this is for naughtLast edited by gssixgun; 09-03-2012 at 10:53 AM.

Thanked: 485Nice razor. What is your normal touch up regime on the other razors? I use a Shapton 16k for touch ups, but I'm thinking in your case you could go with 30 laps on the 8?
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 13245Once you move to a stone things change, to get any benefit at all from the 8k, it has to match the Factory bevel, (easier said then done) with just using the strops to try and tweak the edge you will hit the edge because of the give in the strop..
If the strops don't help then you will need to tweak in the edge using the stones anyway...

I would refine the bevel on the 4k . Then , give it 5 laps on the 8k , and strop it and shave .
If it doesn't shave , go back to the 4k , and repeat until it does shave .
Once you have it shaving , like it should , you can go to the pastes , and polish the edge if you want .

Thanked: 993I think this is a "top down" sort of case. Which is really what Glen is saying too. Start with your strop, and test shave. NO? ok, then do some light paste work, and then strop and test shave. Yes? leave it. No? Pull out the 4k, slurry it nicely and cut a new bevel. Dilute to water, finish on the 4, move to the 8, then paste work, leather work, test shave.
Less is always better. You can't put steel back on (unless you have a forge )

'Nothing to add to what Glen & Maxi say. Should you want a hand with it - I'm a few hrs north. You're welcome to come by, try gear, try stones, etc. Or send w/ envelope & postage and I'd be happy to help.

Thanked: 15Thanks for the inputI think I'll start with a test shave to see what the factory edge is like.Glen and Maxi's idea sounds like the plan to go with, and if that fails a visit with pinklather.
