That Dovo "carpe diem" razor has given me the most fits of any of my others. PITA to get the edge just right, finicky about how it's stropped, and heavy in the scales making ATG on my neck slow goins, and now this!? I think this razor has it in for me!
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

You can remove the dings on any stone you want. The only question is "how long do you want to hone for?" You'll be happy you dropped back to the 1k for a couple minutes instead of a higher stone for a good amount of time longer. Even though I love the way my Chosera cuts, I've taken razors down to the Norton 220 to really do some damage, so to speak. Good luck,
Andrew

Am I the only one using a sponge to wipe lather of the razor?
For me one dingup was enough.
I'm just saying.

I tried a sponge but now I opt for a face cloth folded over the rim of the wash basin, works a treat.

I've never dinged up my edge that way but I do take a big deep breath before I shave and say a prayer because I do have a high fear that I MIGHT this time.
I use a towel on the side of the sink to wipe off the swarf from the edge while I"m shaving, seems to lesson the risk but I do rinse off the razor at the end of my shave with very very hot water and at that time I know I am at greatest risk of doing some damage, wish me luck but I know at some point I will do it and then I will become friends with my Norton 1K again.
Life is just interesting that way!!

Perhaps this would help those who have trouble avoiding the faucet:

Use the towel trick, I use a dry one. My razor does not get wet, except for the lather of course, therefore little chance of rust issues, and never gets close the faucet, therefore no ding issues.
If I were to hone this I would go ahead and do a bevel set, and work your way up through the grits, you are going to have to to get the dings out.Last edited by nun2sharp; 09-29-2012 at 04:52 PM.
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain
