If you learn the 8K well, then the 12K will become more of a want & not a need.
..and everybody wants more hones.
My razor hones are for razors only; no knives touch my 4K, 8K, PHIG, 16K hones, no way in h*ll.
My knives enjoy various Carborundums, 1K, an old beaten Swaty, Arkansas stones, Welch slate & next month I will order another PHIG just for knives.

Thanked: 1587Some of us used to set bevels on and shave straight off the Norton 4/8. So there's no problem from that point of view, it can do the job. I seem to recall some guys pasted CrOx onto their strop if they wanted a smoother edge post 8K.
I've used the Norton with knives, but on a one-off basis. I'd agree that it may be better for your razors if you devote another hone to the knives.

Thanked: 2If there was not so much GREAT info in that thread I would swear that the new guy just got hazed. I have questions after reading that much but I am to tired to ask them now. That thread really should be a sticky for easy reference. Thanks for the help
