If you learn the 8K well, then the 12K will become more of a want & not a need.
    ..and everybody wants more hones.

My razor hones are for razors only; no knives touch my 4K, 8K, PHIG, 16K hones, no way in h*ll.
My knives enjoy various Carborundums, 1K, an old beaten Swaty, Arkansas stones, Welch slate & next month I will order another PHIG just for knives.

Some of us used to set bevels on and shave straight off the Norton 4/8. So there's no problem from that point of view, it can do the job. I seem to recall some guys pasted CrOx onto their strop if they wanted a smoother edge post 8K.

I've used the Norton with knives, but on a one-off basis. I'd agree that it may be better for your razors if you devote another hone to the knives.

If there was not so much GREAT info in that thread I would swear that the new guy just got hazed. I have questions after reading that much but I am to tired to ask them now. That thread really should be a sticky for easy reference. Thanks for the help

PS I must be a Straight Razor Geek I watched all the videos.
