    Here are a couple edge photo's. You can clearly see the difference between the bevel set edge and the polished edge.

    I also use the reflection to see if the bevel is coming in evenly across the length of the blade, and looking down on top of the edge if I can no longer see the edge of the bevel, then I start the TNT and TPT tests and go by feel from there. It was a great piece of advice to give me a visual judge when I first began honing myself, so thanks much ace!
    Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

    From someone who has hesitated in getting started on honing my own razors, your examples and descriptions are so well written, even I understood the concept before I got to the illustrations and photo.
