Thanked: 0Touched the sink with my blade.
Noticed while stropping before my shave the blade was leaving light dicoloration in one spot on the strop. Closer inspection shows ive dinged the blade somehow or shut it on the handle. either way i am in need of getting it sharpened. Any takers!

Man that sucks, I did the same about a week ago, and had to take it back and set a whole new bevel on it. Where are you located?

Sorry man. I made sure not to do that, very carefully.
The used blade I got, sometimes won't fold perfectly between the plastic scales (handle), and can get caught on the scale if I'm not careful.
I don't keep my sink filled with water. I just turn the faucet on each time I need to clean it off. Easy enough...
Also, it's a good habit to only wet the blade itself when rinsing. That way you don't have to worry about drying it anywhere else. Good tip from Lynn.

Let us know where you're at, I'm in Northeast Alabama in Calhoun county, if you're a state or two away, or don't mind the wait I can hook you up as well. Lots of guys will extend the offer, so just let us know where you're at so we can get an idea of about how long it might take to get here and back.

Thanked: 1936Don't worry about the oops, happens to a lot of us. You have a couple of options you can do:
-Pick up a barber hone, Naniwa 3/8K, or Norton 4/8K and touch up the blade that way.
-Contact one of the guys on the classified's who offer honing services.
Someone may offer you their services on here, but I would recommend that it all be done via PM. For your own sake if you have it done, make sure that whoever is touching up your blade has experience with blade correction.
It would also be beneficial if you gave your location in your member information so that folks may offer to help you. You don't have to give your address, but give a general area or town, state. I'm in NE TX/SE OK and would show you a few things if you are anywhere near. I would have you to do it, but guide you thru the process and give you the "why" on my recommendations. This way you would learn how to touch up your own razors...the best place to start when it comes to honing.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 0I have a norton 8k which has been used extensively to touch up knives over the years and its not flat so i dont want to use that on my straight razor. also honining a straight razor from what ive read is much finer than most knives. keeping all that in mind for the time being i will send it to have it done. maube after a little more experience with all of this i will acquire some hones and give it a try. Thank you all for your help!

A lot of times people don't understand how delicate a razor really is. They only think of it as a piece of metal not understanding how much can go wrong with minimal contact. We on the other hand see them as our babies.
