Help with a blade

I need a little help with a 5/8 Dovo Best Quality. I couldn't get it sharp in the middle of the blade. I noticed, with a loupe, that it wasn't making contact in the middle. So, I thought I'd tape the spine and do some circles with some slurry on my Norton 4k ( my lowest grit stone besides my 325 DMT). I think I made some improvement, but there is still a small area that's not contacting the stone.

I've noticed that on one side of the razor the bevel seems to disappear where it's not contacting the hone, but on the opposite side, in the same spot, the bevel gets really wide. Not sure if I has anything to do with my issue, just an observation.

If I keep doing circles with some pressure, will I eventually start making contact with the trouble spot?

Sounds like a Warped blade, I have the same razor and my blade has a slight warp. Lay it flat on a Perfectly flat surface (maybe a lapped hone) see if it's in contact all along the edge and spine. If it seems like it's not warped then you may have a frown .

Either way I thing i would add some layers tape to the spine and do some aggressive circles to take metal off until you have established a bevel, then reduce the amount of tape(or none at all) and remake a new bevel at that angle and go on from there.

An update: I used two layers of tape and did many, many circles. I think it may have gotten a little better, but I'm not sure. Should I try adding another layer of tape? Will that harm anything?

It sounds like the razor has a little warp or the grind may be a little off, but with some work you will get it into shape. Once you are where you think you should be, lap your 4K and give it one more go to be sure you have the bevel just right.

Depending on how bad the warp is, you may or may not be able to "correct" it by honing.

You can also hone the edge, and keep the warp. It won't degrade the shave. The honing will involve both "rolling strokes" (on the convex side) and "off-the-edge-of-the-stone" strokes (on the concave side).

Try a search on "honing warped blade" -- there are several threads, and maybe a video.

Thanks Charles! I will keep that in mind as I continue honing this razor. I added a third piece of tape tonight and did many more circles. The spot in question is now making contact with the hone. Not much contact, but contact. Should I make sure it passes the TNT before I remove the excess tape and reset the bevel using one piece of tape? Good to be getting somewhere.

Question are you taping the whole blade or just the section with the problem( or the section without the problem?) would you tape both sides or just one? And if one, which one?
This warp thing has me confused.
I had one this week that I just got off ebay( not a lot of money) that you just wish you could put into a vise and crank it down and leave for a few days!
