I just bought a King Deluxe 1000 because I was going through 12-15 mic honing film like crazy. I'm pretty happy with it for less than $30. It cuts pretty fast and does not leave deep scratches, easy to polish out.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Yeah, the King works well. It has more of an "abrasive" feel than say a Naniwa, but it's a fast bevel setter..I have both the Naniwa 1k and the King 1k, and it almost seems like certain razors like certain stones. While one works well with one razor, it may not work well for the next one...

The Norton works just fine but I would like to see what the fuss is all about when it comes to the other two. Anyone else own a Norton1k? What are your thoughts on its performance.
You soak it in water, and rub a razor on it. Chips disappear, the edge becomes even, and the bevel becomes matte-smooth.

So I went ahead and ordered a chosera 1k from a local seller. Looking forward to trying it. Will this stone work well with norton 4k-8k ? I am tempted to also get a naniwa 3-8.

You will be fine with that set, to be honest, I use those stones most of the time myself. I have various other stones, the 3k/8k Naniwa too, but the Norton is a bit less maintenance hungry. Both are nice, but you don't really need the nani if you have the Norton too.

The 1k Chosera is a very nice bevel setter, and will be a very good partner for your Norton.

I notice you're listing Montreal as location. I am myself in St-Hubert, South Shore. Do you mind telling me which local shop in Montreal you found your stone?

I think I sense an early case of hone acquisition disorder.

Google Paul's finest. He is a canadian retailer, and after ordering, to my surprise I realized he is based in Montreal.

Precisely so! It was so much simpler in the beginning when it was just a DE, but now its just so much more fun and the learning never ends.
