Thought I recognised that grey 220. You don't see many of those
I owned a few warped Gottas in the past. Just take s a bit of gymnastics on the hone.
Enjoy the process & if you get stuck you can always ask the original owner for help . LOL..The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 116TRUE! If you've got some naguras to help pre-polish for the final finishing on water or tomo nagura then you can take an 8k edge and bring it up to the full potential of the stone for a lot less $ than all those synthetics
As mentioned 100 billion times though, every natural is different and not guaranteed. Synthetics are engineered, uniform, consistent, predictable, etc.

Thanked: 1936I for one truly apprecaite that you (OP) are learning to hone to 8K first. Once you have the primary three stones down (1,4,8), you will be able to hone anything. The finishers are a personalized touch.

Thanked: 8I shaved with the first edge I've ever honed this morning.
Wasn't the smoothest shave being 8k and i don't think the bevel was perfect but I've been spoilt by Oz's edges!
After setting the bevel I did a pyramid on the 4k/8k then 50 felt 100 leather. Haven't got a linen strop and the leather strop is worse for wear but did the job.
I might try some crox on felt and see if there's any difference to tomorrow's shave.
Thanks again for the encouragement and no doubt I will be back if I get a problem.

I can commiserate with you there! Oz tricked out one of my Bengalls with a fantastic edge that has left all of my own edges in the dust. Sadly it has finally started to deteriorate and needs a touch up but I really don't want to to ruin what is there!! Only one of the four razors that are in my rotation is anywhere close and the rest are all just a notch down. I need to get a norton 4/8 to help though, I only have a 1K stone and a PHIG/C12k stone atm.
Nick.

Nick , it's easier to keep an edge sharp than to sharpen it. Maybe should have taken it it to the PHIG sooner but give it a try anyhow.
