If you keep that up, I think you'll definitely overhone the edge. Use this link to read up on the Pyramid approach.
I also use slightly more pressure on the 4k hone than on the 8k to help keep the overhoning from happening and get better hair popping from th HHT more often than not. More than thinking of less pressure, I think it is important to use even pressure. That way whatever is happening on te blade is happening more equally along te edge and you can make easier changes. Also it helps ensure that the edge doesn't get bumped off by a hand trying to go a bit too light and having the blade jump around. One or two bad laps can ruin a lot of work if you're not careful.

I've been experimenting with various ratios of alcohol and water but it either burned too hot or wouldn't burn at all. Maybe some cool-burning oil.

Thanked: 0I cannot ppicture doing this to oneself - the most impressive parts were the speed and touch. I could not imagine moving my arms and hands quick enough without getting all tangled up. Course 8 wks ago couldn't imagine shaving my own face with a st8. You should, if not already, try a thread on this in a grooming section here and on the other shaving forums.
Good luck with this impressive endevour and any successes must be reported in video format :-)

Thanks for the research tip Bill. I don't think I'll be too inclined to flap my jaw for the video as I'm putting a flaming q-tip into my nostril lol.

(This resoponse is from a newbee who found he did not wreck his new razors following Lynn's advice on the DVD..)
Good luck - and take your time... enjoy the experience and savour the result.

Thanked: 0I know this is going to be met with a collective "come on, nobody is that broke", but I have no more money to put into this right now. I traded for the razor and strops I have now and then opted to ask for the stone for xmas convincing myself that it will pay for itself in the long-term.
Everyone regards this video highly and says it is a good value. I would love to learn from it and am sure it would be very helpful, just can't right now.
I am, and will continue to enjoy the experience ... I am in no hurry as I am currently getting decent shaves, just know they could be better.
Thanks for the suggestion, Bill
