Anything that gives you confidence in your honing as you move from grit to grit is a good thing.
I'm not trying to condemn the standing arm hair test that you do, don't get me wrong please, I just don't put any credence into it as a measure of success; it's just not the way I learned.

I'm trying to help you find out why, you are frustrated with your finisher, the Zulu.

No, I get you on that. I'm just explaining how I use it and why. As is often said, the shave test is the only definitive test. But along the way I'm watching these little signs and having expectations based on other successfully honed blades. Anyway, I've got some experimenting to do this weekend to try to isolate the problem. I'm not sure what happens after that though. LOL
