Coticule is also a vein in a slate quarry.
Ardennes Coticule is basically a slate quarry, the coticule is just a side line.

As the Wiki article explained there are many other minerals found in the slate, garnets are just one type that is useful to us. No doubt there are other slate based stones out there not yet in common use for sharpening. Not all will be as fine or fast cutting as Belgians, Eschers or Thuringens and likely why they are not seen as often.
