Thanked: 2591Same kind of edge a lot faster and works every time. The edge is great and requires no pastes /sprays to be at its best.
If I am to advise a new guy what hones to buy, I'd advise to buy the Suehiro as a finisher. This one will not leave any desire to try something else in search of better edge.
I still love my Jnats and use them all the time, but when I need to hone a bunch of razors fast a full synthetic progression with Suehiro as finisher is what I use.Last edited by mainaman; 05-14-2013 at 11:41 AM.

Thanked: 1936As most of you know I'm a Shapton GS junkie, have any of you compared the Gokumyo 20K to the Shapton 30K? I have found few razors can handle the 30K & it is easy to overhone on it.
My personal "go to" routine is a progression to 16K and finish on Escher & it's one of those that works every time on every razor. Most of my personal razors are of harder steel and this Gokumyo 20K has my interest...Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

I have used the Shapton GS 30K for a while, and the Shapton Pro 30K even more.
While great hones, they are both quite finicky when it comes to what razors actually benefits from a trip on them.
As you said, there aren't all razors who can handle them.
The Gokumyo, while every bit as fine, (the grit rating-system used on them are different) is another entity entirely.
Out of the approx. 5-600 hundred razors I have put across it, more or less every single razor has benefitted from using it on them.
No microchipping or overhoning this far, except from on one of my custom razors.
And that thing is chippy regardless of what stone(s) I use on it...Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 2591I have tried the 30k GS and the 30k Pro, the Pro is closer to the Gokomyo than the GS from edge quality perspective.
The Pro does not have the limitations the GS has (in terms of count numbers and way of using it) we have read on the forums. With the Gokomyo you have to do a lot of laps to damage the edge, 35 laps make the edge sharp and buttery as it gets, and I am yet to see any micro chipping from that hone.Stefan

Thanked: 1936Thanks guys...I GUESS...hopefully I will have a few bucks left over from my trip so that I can add yet another finisher to the mix. Sounds like a good finisher though in all reality. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like it's edge is similar to Escher, but only a little more sharp/crisp feeling during the shave?
