    Default Earthquake

Well, apparently one of the strongest quakes in history just hit off the coast of Northern Japan. Tsunamis are hitting several areas and aftershocks have continued for about 2 hours.

If you have friends or loved ones in Japan, and are trying to contact them, be aware that phone lines are down but the net is still up.

Try Google people search: Google Person Finder: 2011 Japan Earthquake

    Be safe, everyone.

It was quite big here. So big I grabbed my razors and went outside! Fortunately I live in a modern house so it's designed to take big quakes, but I guess many won't have been so lucky today.

Thanks for the thoughtful post, Jim.

    Glad to hear you're ok.

What part of Tokyo are you in?

I'm way down in Yamaguchi. We have a .5 meter tsunami warning, but we've got a few islands between us and the open sea. We're fine. Worried about some friends on Shikoku, though. And in Tokyo. And Niigata.

Are the airports in Tokyo open, or will they be open on Sunday? I have a friend flying in from Sapporo, and she is supposed to switch flights at Tokyo/Narita.

Right now, All I know is Sendai airport is under water.

Narita has been evacuated, but I haven't heard any info about damage there.

Terrible, we hope all our members who live and work in Japan are well.

    Just now CNN reports:
"...Tsunami warnings issued for Hawaii, U.S.West Coast and 19 other countries after major quake and tsunami off Japan."
