Thread: fixed blades?

I used to have a small assortment. I kept one, a Puma "White Hunter" as an all purpose survival tool. My favorite maker is Randall and their website is here.

Mora makes an 8" SS for around $24. Excellent knives at great prices.

For EDC the Swiss Victorinox are good quality values. The Farmer model can be found for around $35. The Soldier model is the same basic knife w/o a wood saw.

Yup easily. You could buy a RAT (google RAT cutlery) which come with the best warrantee I've ever seen.

Basically....if you break it in any way they'll fix it. Even if it was intentional. The only things that aren't garanteed are rust and normal usage. But they have a very tough coating on their blades so you probably won't see much rust anyway.

It's a bit under 8 inches though.

Also you could buy a Himalayan Imports Khukuri, big freaking things also with excellent warrantee that come imported straight from Nepal. (Just google Himalayan Imports) They have quite a few models that go WAY over 8 inches. (I'm assuming you're talking about blade length)


As for small EDC type fixed blades I'd recommend the RAT Izula. Because of price and Warrantee or one of the AG Russel offerings.

All come with excellent steel and customer service that is known to be among the best in the buisiness.

For both knives added you should be able to get a good deal for significantly less than $200 together.

+1 for HI.

Just remember they give the overall lenght. A 15" is similar to a 7" blade knife. 18" OAL is a little big to carry, but I leave one in the car or at the camp. The Chiruwa Ang Khola is a tank.

If you want to get the khukuri path, I suggest you register to Bladeforums and look on the Himalayan Imports subforum, great deals there.

DO NOT get a khukuri machete (Cold Steel or Kabar) if you want a chopper.

I'm kind of new to knives myself. I have and like both the RAT Cutlery RC-3 and the Izula.

Randall is nice....if you don't mind waiting around 4 years or more for your knife. The Puma White Hunter is a famous knife as well.

Also consider the Buck 119 which is quite nice and offcourse part of your american heritage in some way.

Personally...I'd go with the RAT's if for no other reason than that they have a great rep and the BEST customer service in the buisiness.

I'd do so myself....but RAT's cost about 2x or more over here than what they cost in the states.

+1,000 on the Rat RC-3, from Rat Cutlery, great size, not scary for the masses and a great knife. Cold Steel also makes some great affordable fixed blades, Kobun Tanto might be the best sub $50 fixed blade out there.

I LOVE my RAT the sheath that came with is makes it great to carry, and as far as a big strong SHARP cheap knife I cannot recommend "The Bushman" from Cold Steel highly enough. Yes It has my name on it so it has that going for it but DAMN what a strong knife for the money.
