Knife collecting

My father gave me a bunch of knives he collected over the years. I have them in a case at the bottom of one of my closets. He also gave my a few devices to sharpen them from spiderco (sp). I really have no interest in them but since they were Dads I kept them rust free and safe.
I guess get some sort of show case for them. Some are very old so I look at them periodically and use the oil he gave me to keep them.

I was always interested in folks who make their own knives. I think some of the ones I have are hand made but I'm not sure.

I would put them in a display (I have one to for my knives) just to keep your fathers legacy alive ;) Hand made knives are the best since they tell a story and often show real craftsmanship. I have made some knives / Machetes myself and I can tell you it's a painstaking process to get them right.

I used to have a knife collection. I gave most of them away to various friends.

I keep a Benchmade around for EDC and a Cold Steel prolite as a beater knife. My favorite and most used knife though is my Hiromoto AS kitchen knife. I'm suppose to be getting a 150mm petty at some point. This knife is the best knife purchase choice I ever made and sharpens up beautifully to a scary edge on my Grandfather's vintage Escher stone.

I have to admit to being a bit of a knife nut. Here is one I bought recently by a very talented maker who goes by chevin on the British Blades froum

The handle is micarta and the blade is 01 steel with a hand rubbed satin finish (nice).

Oooooh I am so jealous of all of you! I have some run of the mill knives I got from places around here. Nothing worth showing pics of anyways. But knives and sharp things in general are good stuff. I would like to learn the proper way to sharpen a knife though. My grandpa and I used to whittle a bit and do a little sharpening, but that was a long time ago.

If you want some info and tips about sharpening knives I could get you on your way. I've been sharpening knives to scary sharpness for years. Send me a PM if you need some help getting started with the right tools and techniques :)

Nope, no knives here :p

I love the Hiromoto AS line, great mid grade knife hands down :) The Gerber BMG (low 4 digit) lived on my LBE for a few years and never let me down. A few (half dozen) LR Harner knives.

I love L.H. Harner's work. Very unorthodox usually. Very nice stuff.
