Thanked: 1072Sheffield Knives
Thought some of you might be interested in this. I dont know how common these knives are in the U.S. but these old Sheffield butter/dinner knives are fairly common over here. you can usually pick them up in Antique stores for around 5 bucks each. I love them, I learnt how good they are when I worked in the sign industry. I used to use them to remove metal signs off walls by sticking the knife down behind the sign and levering it off. These things are tough! anyway yesterday I found some for $1 each so I had to grab a few more for the kitchen. Cool thing is 2 of them are Joseph Rodgers.

Baldy,
Nice find !
In the UK, you used to find entire sets of older British cutlery in second hand shops etc for a mere pittance.
I think the large size of most of this era of cutlery puts people off these days !
I got a full set about 15 years ago, and it is still going strong. IIRC it cost me about 10 GBP
Enjoy yours
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Very nice! I actually use a pipe tool/knife made by Rodgers of Sheffield, they are quite common and still sold all over:
I also have a Chinese Chef's knife that is a blatant knock off of their style, it says "Masterfield" in a traditional looking Sheffield typeface.

I have knifes like that.
Used to be pretty common in Norway.
Usually used as dinner knifes.
I bought a dozen of them some 10 years back, and they are still functioning perfectly.
All it takes is a sharpening about every 6 monthe, and they just keep on going.
I love mine!Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 983Hey Grant, We have heaps of those knives. They've been distributed amongst the family now. We had piles of them out on the Station. All in various states of use. Some have been used and abused for station tasks and others were kept in good codition and used only at the table. I've never stopped to look at the manufacturers stamps...Now I want to go visit all the family scattered across this bloody great big state and sort them into manufacturer sets...
