Thanked: 0G'day from Australia
Hi guys,
Just turned 23 today and my amazing fiance brought me something I've been asking her for for years, a straight razor. She did some research on what to get me and I'm now the proud owner of a blue Dovo Shavette (Just like the one below)
I'm told it's great for beginners and makes an excellent razor for travelling when it's time to move onto a fixed blade.
After a bit of googling and some reading I had my first shave with a cutthroat and cut myself 5-6 times I estimate, I believe a few nicks are very common.
So now I'm here to get some advice, learn a bit more and buy myself some good quality products stuff to compliment my razor.
and my name is Mitch!

Thanked: 983G'day Mitch, you've found the right place to learn all about the art of using a Cut-Throat razor. I'm not an expert, read "I have no experience with", Shavette's of any brand/kind or description, but if you need help don't be afraid to ask. If I can't help, there'll be someone else who can that's for sure. Welcome to the forum mate.

Hi Mitch, welcome. I don't know if you've spotted it yet but there is a new shavette forum, which looks quite busy already. Like Mick I don't really know too much about them, but its always good to learn. Feel free to ask questions, but watch out for Mick, he's a cheeky one.

Thanked: 14Welcome-I too started with a Dovo shavette using half a DE blade. It gives a good shave but you have to use a very light touch. I then got a Feather Artist Club SS replaceable blade razor. The shavette razors give good shaves with the convenience of no stropping, no honing, just put in a new blade and shave. I now shave with regular new and vintage straights but the shavettes taught me to use a very light touch. If you learn to shave with shavettes then going on to regular straights should add to your experience. Enjoy your journey.
