Thanked: 0Right, back from the wedding to find that the razors I was offered were 'accidentally sold' in my absence. I will be packing up one of the three I managed to get hold of and sendin it to be honed this weekend as per your recommendations. I will get some pics up over the weekend of what I have so far. The stones I have are Norton oil stones. It is a set of three of various grades. The smoothest is not in great condition so will need sorting, the other two are spot on.
I manage to find them at a little antique shop near me and suppose I just got lucky! The stones are borrowed from work.

in my opinion your hones dont really sound suitable for razors. they will need lapping dead flat if they are dished from whatever you do at work. do they have a grit grade on them?

Thanked: 0Unfortunately I don't think there is a specific grade on them. One of them simply says 'medium'. Everything else is a bit too smudged to read. Only the smooth one needs lapping, the other two are like new, just a bit grubby. It is probably worth while investing in some new ones though.

Thanked: 0Hi All,
I hope I have attached the image properly,I this is my first time!
From top to bottom:
5/6 marked '42 Garantie Paris' on one side and 'Made in France on the other. Also has hb620 in an oval. Original box marked 'our celebrated 5/6 razor set ready for use'
Some light staining to blade but generally pretty good. Black plastic scales.
5/8 marked '50 E. Moll & Co. Solingen' on one side of the tang and 'Diamand Stahl' in gold on the blade. Original box marked 'E. Moll & Co. Solingen Rasirmesser Feinster Qualita' Some light rust and staining to blade, very light chipping to the edge. Black plastic scales.
5/8 marked 'KROPP' on one side of the tang and 'made and ground in Sheffield Eng.' on the other. original box marked '5/8" round point' on the end. Good condition with light staining to blade point.
Hollow point(?) full wedge with smiling edge marked 'Fine India Steel' on the spine and what looks like an N or M. Barber & Son, Norfolk Street, Sheffield on the tang. No box. This one is a bit stained and has quite heavy pitting to the tang but the blade is actually in very good condition apart from a small area of deeper pitting a third of the way up the blade right on the point. Scales look like bone or ivory.
The strop is also vintage but the name is rather faded. Near the hook it is marked in italics 'O*****' with the number 63 underneath and near the handle it is stamped with what looks like 'Genuine O*SE**'. Obviously the * represent unreadable letters. It has leather on one side and canvas on the reverse.
Any advice/ info on any of these would be great. Should this be put in a different thread now? Many thanks for your warm welcomes and sound advice so far.
