Thanked: 0Hello from London!
Hi All,
I have been using the shavette style cut throats for a couple of years now and have finally got round to beginning to invest in some proper kit! I am interested in vintage items and restoration. I very recently picked up a Kropp 5/8 round point, an E. Moll (Solingen) 5/8 round point and a little French 5/6. I have no doubt my collection will soon grow! Any restoration/ honing advice gratefully received! Thanks!

Thanked: 0Hi Guys, thanks for the replies. Pete, no they're not shave ready but they are in decent condition. I would like to try and have a go at honing them myself! I have a decent set of stones and I managed to pick up all three razors and a leather strop for a fiver so I've not got much to lose! Any pointers on strop pastes? Cheers, Martin.

I strongly recommend you send one to Razor Honing for a professional honing so you have a benchmark as it will not be as sharp as your shavette. Post some pictures of your razors and let us know what stones you have as well first.
Check out Lynn Abrams and gssixgun videos on YouTube for starters and read up on wiki on this site. The link I sent you sells chrome oxide for three quidNet.Wt.7oz

Thanked: 0Thanks for the link, I will send one off next week. I will photograph my razors and post them, I can't seem to find any info on the 'E.Moll & Co. Solingen' one, it is boxed and looks good quality although the edge needs a bit of work.
Have checked out a couple of the videos, they are great! The stones are at work at the mo and are a set of different grades originally for sharpening small chisels so need to check how suitable they are.
I'm at a wedding this weekend so will have picks and more info next week. I also have been offered a bag of old razors for honing practice. I will post pics of those too in case there is anything of interest.
Is this how it works? You get drawn in with a couple of 'good deals' and the next thing you know you're on the lookout for your next fix? I'm sure my mother warned me about this...

that is exactly the deal, checkout rad, sad, had...the list goes on.
ideally you dont want to use a hone less than 1k and you will need an 8k atleast for a finisher
where the hell are you getting a bag of razors from?Net.Wt.7oz

Hello from a fellow Londoner!
I have to say I can appreciate the slight frustrated tone in bombay's voice! I spent a couple of days this summer in all the more famous antique markets in London - Spitalfields and Bermondsey....with the total result of ONE very chipped and rusted Kropp that I left well alone!
WHERE???
