Welcome, can't comment on the strop you asked about, but what I would say is that yes you can nick, scratch, cut and otherwise damage a strop, but most of the time it will be salvageable, so get something at least reasonable, the strops from whipped dog are popular and inexpensive as far as I understand. I am not suggesting that you rush an buy one, in fact I made my own, all I am saying is look around a bit before rushing into anything.
And remember that you don't have to spend loads to get good quality things.
