Thanks Obie, I've inquired on here about a professional based in UK or Ireland.
    Hopefully get feedback soon.
In the meantime I'll search the net.
I've got to get it all cleaned up and polished before that

I'm off in a moment myself. Getting way past my bedtime. Nice looking razor by the way. As Steph said of himself, I'm no expert on the brands either.

We have the impression here that Australia is permanently sun drenched.
I quite like the look of the razor, and in the long term I'd plan on replacing the scales with wooden ones.

Hi and welcome. Looks like a nice razor. As said get it pro honed so you will know it is shave ready and have a bench mark for what a sharp razor is. You will also be needing a strop. Check out the library link up top to find out all the basic starter info. If you hit a roadblock the search at the top is great for finding info or post your question and we will help if possible. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

    Hi kev,
I live in western Australia, and am working in the north of western Australia, it was 42 degrees the other day. I think nightblade has taken too many cold and flu tablets, he forgot that before elevenses you will be wanting third breakfast
Welcome to the forum, and I hope you enjoy your razor.
If you are getting a strop (silly statement, of course you are), get a relatively inexpensive one to start with as you will probably do it some harm during your early stropping endeavours.
    Best regards
    Ed
Do you have weatherspoons where you are?
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

    Thanks for the welcome Ed,
Only managed time for two breakfasts before elevenses today
Good tip on the strop. With regards strops, what's the difference between the common belt type strop and the one on the wooden block?

And yes we do have Wetherspoons here in Northern Ireland but they don't in the south. Some people turn their noses up at them but I quite like them, one of the few places you can get a decent real cask ale

I think you are asking about hanging and paddle strops. Some people say a paddle is easier to learn proper technique as you don't need to worry about tension. You also don't need anywhere to hang it. They are also convenient for travel.
All that being said, I use 2 homemade hanging strops, one denim, one roo leather. I have always used the roo one from when I first started stropping, it has some battle scars but it is still fine, I loop a bit of paracord over the door handle in my accomodation I fly to for work, so that goes to show that either will work. Some places will supply replacement leather so that if you do get damage it can be replaced. You can also get modular paddle strops that have interchangable stropping surfaces so you buy the paddle and the various stroppping surfaces that you want.
I mentioned weatherspoons to Mick on a different thread, are they still cheap too, and is the food still ok?

Yeah, they are cheaper than most places, with a better range of drink than most.
The foods not bad at all, especially considering the price.
Just had an unpleasant shaving experience there now. Still using my shavette and I noticed it was snagging a bit so I changed the blade. I then proceeded to cut the face of myself. Worst shave I've had since I started. Sitting here with my face soaked in aftershave balm

I missread the sentence about the unpleasant shave, I thought you had just shaved at weatherspoons, are you actually missing parts of your face, or is it more of an extreme exfoliation? If it is any consolation my shave was a bit rough tonight. Anyway I will be away to bed shortly, so I might not reply for a few hours.

I did once see a man shaving in the bathroom of a whetherspoons! Lol
No major parts missing, just a face on fire. Maybe I shouldn't do a second pass with a new blade.
I was hoping it was only noobs like me who had bad shaves.
    Chat later mate
