Hello, Im from Australia
So well hi
my name is Henry
I live in the blue mountains
and i started shaving with a cheap DE razor but it wasnt working so well
then i thought just take the plunge cut my face ill get the experience only by doing
so i bought a Jico straight razor from ebay quite a beauitiful thing i must say
great shave i cut up my face a little but kept improving
and now no nics or cuts
also best shave i have ever had
i love it
sadly my straight is blunt
and i dont know where i can get it rehoned somewhere close
I really want to start my own barber shop up here somewhereLast edited by onimaru55; 11-28-2013 at 01:16 AM. Reason: correct spelling for op

Welcome!!
As far as honing goes (down under) you will find my mate Oz here! His honing is legendary!!

I do believe that after you shave with a properly honed razor you will find that what you have been experiencing is NOT what a straight razor will shave like!!
Again! Welcome! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 1587Hello and welcome to the forum
First the good news is that if you've been able to get decent shaves off a Jico you are doing well. Second, the bad news is that, although not specifically listed on our razors to avoid list, IMO (and in the opinion of some well-respected others, e.g. Razor Brands To Avoid) Jicos are not one of the best brands out there. I've honed a few, or at least tried to, and you can do a lot better.
By all means contact Oz (Onimaru55) regarding rehoning your current razor, but if I were you I'd give some serious consideration to obtaining another razor of better quality - it doesn't have to be new, but a new Best Quality Dovo for example will set you back somewhere between 90-110 dollars. There are also some very nice vintage razors to be had in the sub-$100 range. I think you'll notice a difference.

Welcome to the 'Place', Henry. Have deleted your duplicate thread & corrected the title spelling for you.
Whilst Jico razors are not on our 'avoid' list they may be a worthy addition. The price is a bit of a give-away re the quality.
I'd heed Jimbo's advice.

Edit: A quick query to the seller gave this reply so our suspicions are somewhat well founded.
Made In Pakistan.
Thank you for this inquiry.
I've only ever bothered to hone one razor made in Pakistan. Yes it took an edge but did not last the first pass of the shave.Last edited by onimaru55; 12-10-2013 at 10:26 PM.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
