    Unhappy Hello from London, U.K

    Hello all,

Sam here (24) I have been studying this site over the last month and have finally decided to join the discussion. I received a shavette razor for Christmas after dropping many hints about wanting to start shaving with a straight. First shave didn't go so well, however over the last month I have been improving my technique (Thanks to SRP) to a point where I now cant wait to get my hands on my first straight.

I have spent hours reading over this website trying to figure out which razor I wanted, but could only narrow it down to half a dozen. I found the solution to my problem from the website Whipped Dog. I have now ordered a Sight Unseen Razor along with the Leather/Poly Strop. I cant wait to see what arrives.

Welcome. There is a fair bit of difference between the shavettes and the traditional straight. You have opted for a good set up, it's well worth really studying stropping videos to help with technique on that.

The people on here are a massive help and well always offer some great advice.

Welcome to SRP! Good luck getting a straight razor and starting in on that journey. You won't be disappointed.

    G'Day Sam,

I like you started with a shavette then got myself a straight from Larry at whipped dog. I did make a mess of my strop to start with but I soon got the hang of it, it was a good start for me and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with your sight unseen razor if you remember it may not be the best looking razor but it will shave well. Its a great beginning and one I sure would take again.

I now have a few straights and shave everyday, and for the first time in my life can achieve the perfect shave with no irritation or bumps on my neck, so much smoother than the shavette.

Any questions feel free to ask, they are a great group of lads here, and they are always happy to help.

    Enjoy
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness
