Thanked: 3Greetings from Holland
Hi all,
My name is Tim, I'm 26 years old and I live in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
I'm a Sergeant First Class in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, working as an ATC ground controller at Eindhoven airbase.
Reason for joining this forum is my upcoming interest in straight razors. I've been DE shaving for a couple of years now. Before that I used to shave electric and cardridge razors. I have quite a thick heavy beard and a sensitive skin, so I could never shave comfortably before I discoverd DE shaving. Currently I shave with a Muhle R41 or a Merkur 39C Slant. I like to mix them up from time to time. I normaly use a Feather blades. I also own a couple of badger brushes and I have several soaps, creams and aftershaves to choose from. (Seems like its impossible to shave with a DE without buying a lot soaps and creams and stuff )
At the moment I have a groing interest in trying a straight razor. Unfortunately I have almost no extra money to spend at the moment. What I do have, is a Parker shavette. I know its not completely comparable with a real straight, but I think it can help me develop my technique and it enables me to discover if straight shaving is something for me. And so far, I like it.
I hope to get my hands on a real straight in the near future, but I want to do it right the first time, so I will take my time looking around the forum and shops etc. (And waiting for my birthday so I have some money to spend )
So I will be looking and asking for information about straights on the forum, thanks in advance, and maybe I can share some experiences and/or help someone with DE shaving etc.
Well, I think thats enough for now. Questions, feel free to ask!
Good night!
Tim

Welcome, you have a few members near you who should be able to help, Laurens is in the Hague, and is pretty knowledgeable, amongst others. There is also a Benelux forum too.
Once again welcome to the forum.

Thanks Ed, what would we ever do if you were asleep?
Welcome to SRP, Tim When looking for a razor, make sure it's a shave-ready one or one that can be made shave-ready. You'll also be needing a strop, which are sometimes available on Marktplaats. I may not be close-by, but if you need face-to-face help, you're welcome to come over!I want a lather whip

To my knowledge there is only one Australian country, but I AM crap at geography. Living here made the 6-8 hours each way to scotland a breeze
I didn't sleep on Thursday night, slept from 9-5 Friday night and about 3.5 hours last night. I should get 4.5 hours tonight all being wellBread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 3Thanks guys, I think if I try hard enough I could be in The Hague within 1.5 hours. And Deurne is a bit closer indeed. And yes, Holland is smaller than most US states for example
I had my eyes on a Dovo 6/8 Bismarck, indeed in combination with a strop. But yesterday I hit a pothole with my car and now my front rim on the right is broken, and I need two new tires. So no money left for a razor for a while unfortunately. My birthday is in september so I've set my hopes for that.
I've seen shops who offer the razors shave ready, and thats indeed what I want. But I've a question about that. One shop offer them shave ready, because they strope the blade before delivery, another shop gives the impression that they professionally hone the razor before delivery. So, what its true and which one is right?
