Thanks for the advice! The hardest person in life to be is oneself!

Thanks for the advice cudarunner. I have thought about adding a naniwa 12k but just wondered if it would be a big difference in the finished edge vs. stopping at 8k. Also would the 12k make a better choice over the 8k on a light touch up when leather don't bring the edge back.

Using the pyramid method is how I cleared up my gd razor from the over honed edge. The over honed edge at 100x had small carbon specks missing in the edge. Am I on the right track?

Practising on a GD is a good idea, though they are not always easy to hone. I've never overhoned, as far as I know, so I cannot tell you about that. The pyramid method is designed to prevent overhoning, you could search the wiki for it

Stick with the 8k a while you will be surprised how much more your likely to get from it. The 12k is a nice next step though and all you would need for a touch up
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

    As I said:

"I don't use any pasted strops! I do use a 12K now but I worked until I found that I got a great shave off of the Norton 8K each and every time before I purchased a Naniwa 12K."

As Eddy said, stick with the 8K until you are consistently getting great shaves, then think about moving to the Naniwa 12K as it does a really nice job!
