Beginner From Mass
Hi everyone,
I spent all day yesterday reading through this site, and since you are all so helpful and everyone seems cool, I decided to register!
I have to thank the founder for creating such a helpful site, and all the members who seem eager to help and so enthusiastic.
I have been interested in straight razors for a year or so, but kind of forgot about it since there were no local suppliers. The furthest I got was buying a nice stainless steel badger brush. It was not until last week when I saw the ad for the Micro Touch One that I decided to get serious. I immediately began researching the DE razors and wanted to find an all SS blade holder and handle. Then it hit me, a straight razor is even better as there is no blade refills! Somehow by following link to link I ended here. Fortunately after reviewing so many vendor websites I picked my 2 favorite for best prices, web layout, and feel for good customer service. SRD and Vintage Blades and here they are your vendors as well!
Well it's time to start saving up for my first razor, and keep an eye out for a good used straight at a cheap price in case it is not for me.

Welcome to SRP! Everything you need is right here when you get that straight razor you're saving up for. Hopefully, you won't be waiting too long. Good luck!

I found a Dovo Black Star razor with case and strop already on CL for $50, we'll see how that goes. That will be my second thread in another section.

Thank you Ed. I did buy the "hardly used 4 or 5 times" Dovo Black Star with case and strop for $50 on CL. Since I am currently unemployed short term, I have a very strict budget, so I figured this is the best way to get started with my passion for straight razors. Once I get back on my feet I will buy a mid-high quality razor. I am 100% committed to transition from my Quattro to straight razor for personal reasons as well as environmental.
I should receive the Dovo in the mail sometime early next week. After reading many threads here, and watched many videos, I think I will also buy one of the "blind" razors from Whipped dog for around $50 so I will be able to rotate from the get go, and have a backup if I mess one up....Already thinking ahead to when I can afford a third, does this mean I have RAD even before I start learning to shave using a SR? LOL

Thank you Mark, I did not see them here, I must have missed it. I would prefer to give my business to a Brother here so I will look again!

Mark,
I did not see any sight unseen specials here. Could you provide a link please?
Thanks,
Ward

Hey Ward. My point was that you can look at samples of vintage razors in the Classifieds here for around the same price as a Whipped Dog sight unseen special. I saw one razor going for $40 and another for $55. These razors come with pictures so you know what you are buying beforehand. That's not something you get with Whipped Dog.
