Thanked: 1New shaver from Pretoria
Greetings all shavers. I am really new to straight edge razor shaving(did my first shave last night). I have always wanted to do it and bit the bullet this past week and purchased all the goods needed for a shave.
1. Dovo Straight Razor Half Hollow Ground Carbon Steel Black Handle 5/8"
2. Omega Gift Set For Men 3 Piece
3. Dovo Strop Hanging - Cowhide
4. Giesen & Forsthoff Styptic Pencil
5.Dovo Leather Strop Balm (50 ml)
This the list of items i have brought. Any suggestions would be welcomed and i am here to learn from the experiences.

Not sure what you would like suggestions on, but the gear you have seems good, was the razor supplied shave ready?
Are you having any specific problems that you would like help with?

Welcome! That's a good set-up for a successful start. Ask if you have any questions. I've been amazed at the amount of knowledge among the members here...about almost everything

Thanked: 983Holy cr@p! Ed beat everyone else here for a change . Welcome to the forum, read the Wiki and the beginners advice on the home page. Ask questions. None are stupid, but many have been asked of us a hell of a lot. Don't be surprised if the answer you get is just a direction to a particular thread.

Sorry, back on topic, i saw you were looking at hones, it is up to you but you might be best sending the razor off for a hone once in a while until you are sure you are going to comitt to straight razor use.

Hi and welcome. As Ed said was the razor pro honed or just a factory edge. The factory edge isn't considered shave ready no matter what they say. The setup sounds good and hope the shaves get better. Again any questions feel free to ask.
