Thanked: 0Hello from Mass!
I have wanted to try a straight razor for 30 years, but everyone I talked to said they were dangerous.Well after finding sites like this and many video's I thought I would give it a try.I have 8 razors comming in this week and everything to go with it! Wish me luck..Dave

Eight!?! Well, nothing like diving in at the deep end!
Just remember to take it slow, pay attention to the sharp end, and most importantly enjoy it. Technique and speed will come with time. And if/when you have questions, ask away.
Are those razors shave-ready? If not, or if you're not sure, please do yourself a favour and have them honed by a pro before you try using them. Please trust me on that! I didn't do that and had a thoroughly miserable experience when starting out.
Oh, and welcome to SRP!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Expect it to take some time...
A lot of people say it takes about 100 shaves to begin getting good shaves, It took me about 50 shaves but I was taking careful notes of every shave and reading a lot of SRP.
The bad shaves are very bad. Expect some bad shaves. There is a whole lot to learn! Once you figure it out, expect the best shaves you have ever had in your life.
Take it slow and stick to it, it takes a while to pick up the skill, but it is definitely worth it. Beyond shave ready from a professional razor 'honemeister', figure out your beard pattern and don't go against the grain (ATG) for awhile.
Light pressure (no pressure) with the grain (WTG) and work every shave for comfortable. Close will come along by itself. Welcome to the sport!
Best,
Ed HuttonI routinely badger myself and the shaves are improving!
