Thanked: 4Thank you Razorfeld! I've been watching the videos, (what a great resource!), I think Ed had some great advise on getting an inexpensive razor to practice on before I even think about sharpening my vintage razor. I'm starting to get, it's one of those endeavors where the more you know, the more realize what you don't know. I purchased an inexpensive Solingen, $9 off the Bay to practice on. Last night I went to the honing section here on SRP, and I was kind of overwhelmed with all the info., I'll wade through it but whew, there's a lot of info. there!

The wife and I honeymooned in Oahu in 97, many fond memories.
Welcome to this great community. Any advice this Scotsman can offer feel free to ask.

please do yourself a favor and get one pro honed or your first experience may not be a fine experience ,, you must know what a properly honed razor is before you can tell if your hone job is right, a knife edge isn't what you want to shave with ,, and learning to shave is enough at one time , honing can come later good luck tc

Thanked: 4Eddy79,
great advise about having somebody that knows what they're doing sharpen the test razor first for a frame of reference. As a newbie, how would I know if was getting a great shave vs an acceptable shave? Also, if the reason I was not getting good results was due to me or the razor. Any suggestions on a person I could send it to? The test razor arrived today. Thank you so much for the sound advise!

Have a look through the member services here and you can't go wrong. There is a bloke in Hawaii runs aframes Tokyo might be able to help with honing closer to home but don't know for sure. Good luck
