    Aloha Gotea.
What part of the big island do you live? I'm also a big island transplant. Originally from Georgia, but been here 12 years. I stay in Honaunau.
Good to finally see someone that is on the same island around these forums.

Thanks for the concern. We actually had better weather than normal. We usually get rain everyday here. During the storm we got a little wind and some drizzle, but nothing else. You guys probably got quite a bit of wind being right on the southernmost part. I hope that you faired well. I don't have much experience with straights, but I'd be happy to share what i do have with you. Perhaps we could have our own Big Island meet-up sometime.

    Hi gotea,
I am no honer, i have some hones but am nowhere near experienced with them, and i dont sharpen anything else, but something i have read is that lapping is a lot less critical on knife hones than razor hones, you might need to just have a look at that on the stuff you have. Also razors usually get honed to a higher grit than knives (again only what i have picked up from other posts).
On the upside the spine does act as an angle guide while you are learning at least you may want to use a layer of tape on the spine to prevent wear, you can decide later if you want to continue doing so.
And i agree with the idea of sending at least one of your new razors away for honing, though sending the two at once would save you paying for two lots of postage.

Sorry where are my manners, welcome to the forum.

I don't even think you have to be to obsessed with flatness for a razor hone. I don't think old time barbers would lap their stones that often.
There's a lot to be said for the rolling x stroke.
