    Default Zdravo from Slovenia

Been a lurker for a while but decided to join up.

I have been thinking about trying straight razor shaving for a while now after switching to DE shaving about a year ago. (What a world of difference from electric).

Recently moved to Europe for work, and walking down the local flea market I notice all these razors for sale. Today I picked up what looks to be a "Thoso" razor marked Solingen-Wald for a few bucks. Razor seems to be in really good shape, minor marking on the steel and it's even sharp. Now all I need to do is figure out how to get it shave-ready and start scraping it against my face!

Anyways, already grateful for the information I've used from the site up until now and looking forward to contributing where I can.

    Brian

Welcome. Your best bet is to get someone else to hone your blades for a while. The edge will last longer and longer the better you get at shaving and stropping. Once you've gotten your save technique down you can decide if you want to hone then or not. Check the classified member services or perhaps you will find a mentor not too far away.

Yeah, definitely going to get it professionally honed, just not sure where to do so here. Probably going to end up mailing it off.

    Anyways, thanks for the greetings!

    Welcome to SRP!
Since you've been lurking, I assume you already know about the Library and all of its beginner information.
There is also a member search, so maybe you can find someone else in Slovenia that can help ( I know I've seen a few here).

And of course, if you have any questions, just ask.

Welcome Brian. Great to have you aboard.

It must be an amazing transition from electric to DE. I could never get an electric to work on my face and I tried a bunch of the supposedly good ones. Hope we all can help you on your journey into SR shaving.

Although it may be sacrilege I have to say that I actually liked my electric - from Tuesday to Friday. It's a Braun 7 Series and didn't bother my face (except for a little on the neck).

The only times I didn't like it were Monday mornings or after an extended time of not shaving. That's what got me looking into DE and eventually I just switched over. For me shaving is something I have to do, it's not a hobby, but I like the way my face feels after a DE razor shave better than the electric.

    Anyways, thanks for the welcome!
