Good plan! Starting with a pro-honed edge will get your shaves off to the best possible start *and* give you a benchmark to aim for with your own honing when the time comes.

Take a look under "Member Services" in the classifieds, and look for the ad by onimaru55.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Hi and welcome. There is only one place i know for a pro honing in Perth. From previous posts going to Mr shaver in Picadilly arcade is not a good idea. Use the barber named frank in trinity off St Georges tce. If you run into any issues give a shout and will help if possible. Go to the down under forum and get in on the perth meet up.

I was diagnosed with PTSD post Afghanistan, and I've been fine putting at razor to my throat for a while now!

I managed my first shave with minimal damage to my face.

I got tired of waiting for my razor to arrive, and I was reading that a few people suggest getting a razor to practice honing on, so I found a razor for sale in the local classifieds and got it (actually there may have been 2 but don't tell my wife... A Bengall 6/8 and a Kaufmann 6/8).

Both of them were shave ready as near as I can tell (TNT), so I had a crack with the Bengall. The only minor nick I got was in the middle of my chin (where I have a mole and always manage to nick when I shave). So I'll call it a win.

All things considered, I'm very pleased with the experience.

Gday jj. Sounds like you were lucky. TNT is a destructive test normally used at bevel setting stage. I'd say without doubt, nobody here would use it at end stage or on a finished razor. Just sayin...

If you used the tnt then a touch up at least is likely in order. Hopefully after that you will have a truly shave ready razor. You would be amazed at the difference between able to shave and shave ready
