I got tired of waiting for my razor to arrive, and I was reading that a few people suggest getting a razor to practice honing on, so I found a razor for sale in the local classifieds and got it (actually there may have been 2 but don't tell my wife... A Bengall 6/8 and a Kaufmann 6/8).

Both of them were shave ready as near as I can tell (TNT), so I had a crack with the Bengall. The only minor nick I got was in the middle of my chin (where I have a mole and always manage to nick when I shave). So I'll call it a win.

All things considered, I'm very pleased with the experience.

Gday jj. Sounds like you were lucky. TNT is a destructive test normally used at bevel setting stage. I'd say without doubt, nobody here would use it at end stage or on a finished razor. Just sayin...
