Thanked: 45New member from Denver
Hello everyone! I am a new enthusiast to straight razor shaving and am just getting started. I have been researching this for years and am thrilled to find this community out there where all of this combined knowledge is so easily accessible. I have been using AOS products for quite some time with cartridge razors and finally purchased a Shavette to see how I feel about straight razor shaving (and if I like it, of course I will take the next leap)! I have one shave under my belt and survived! I look forward to meeting many of you and thank you in advance for your advise and opinions!

Thanked: 45Bluesman7,
Do you happen to have any experience at Denver Shaver Center on Broadway? I stopped by just to take a look and they seem to have a reasonable selection of new and vintage straights, as well as supplies and strops. Aside from new inventory, they offer honing services as well, and this is what I am primarily interested in once I get my start with a straight a little later this year.
My girlfriend seems fixated on getting at least the razor for me from AoS (she will be participating with family from both sides, and given this is a nation-wide retailer I see her point) but I am a bit weary that what I get will be shave ready out of the box. In that light as I have no such experience yet, I will need honing resources at least to start. Any Denver area advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi Denvernoob,
Jeez, it feels weird calling you that. This is the first that I have heard of Denver Shaving Center, I'll have to stop by and take a look sometime. As for Aos, it seems you already know that they will be paying a premium for the ability to actually see and touch the razor that they are purchasing for you, not that there is anything wrong with that. Aos has a different definition of "Shave Ready" according to many reports, but that should not rule them out as a place to purchase, which it seems that you already understand.
I would be happy hone your new razor if it is needed, or assess the work of Denver Shaving Center if you would like. No charge for either.

Thanked: 45Either way would be an amazing favor when I get all of this together, probably around the holidays. As things start to come together I will certainly be in touch. Many thanks for the kind offers.
Sincerely,
Ted

Thanked: 1Hello! I am from Pueblo, Colorado and started shaving with a straight razor three months ago. I am to the point I can get a wonderfully close and smooth shave without retouch from my DE razor. My advice is to buy a good SR and get it professionally honed. The first SR I bought was a cheapie that said it was shave ready and it tore my face up! Watch a few youtube videos on shaving technique and stropping. I use a Ralf Aust 5/8 and love it. I have heard Dovo and Thiers Issard are good as well. A good place to go is The Art of Shaving at Park Meadows Mall. They have a good line of pre shave oils etc.
