And don't let the Dovo 'Stainless' fool you! Dry it well with toilet paper after shaving and never get the pivot pin wet.... Stainless or not, they can rust fast if not properly dried

Welcome to SRP
I'm glad the lurking is over & the doing is going. I'm glad to hear that you have a Dovo & starter kit coming. Where did you purchase it from? I hope from SRD because the founder & owner of this forum, Lynn, is part owner of SRD & will hone your razor before it leaves there plus you will get a certificate for another free honing for when the time comes for your Dovo to need it again which should be a few months. You might already know this but there is a wealth of information to learn on here & all the members are pretty knowledgable on straight razors. I hope you have been researching the Library because you can learn to strop in there which is the first important thing to know once you get your Dovo. As mentioned on here before, you can learn with an old belt & a butter knife. You can then learn other things like how to hone & there are honing video's you can watch. There is so much to learn including how to restore a straight razor. I can go on & on but you will see for yourself. I hope you have a shaving brush, mug & soap coming too because you will need them. In the long run, it is much cheaper to shave with a straight razor than one of those 5-6 bladed razors they sell these days. The refills are very expensive but once you invest in hones, then in the long run like I mentioned, a straight razor is much cheaper to shave with plus you will get a better shave with one when honed & stropped right. Good luck & have fun!

Thanked: 1184Welcome out of the shadows fellow So Cal guy. If you need any hands on help give a shout. On second thought a PM might work better :<0) I am 20 or 30 miles south as the crow flies.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 1Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone!
The kit was from VintageBlades (hope that's not frowned upon. They're listed as a site sponsor, right? Lynn's StraightRazorDesigns seemed out-of-stock on the blade I wanted -- I'm guessing it's the holiday rush )
I wanted to check in with first shave results... One of those "not as good as I hoped, not as bad as I feared" kind of things.
I managed to get the right sideburn and half a cheek and almost the same on the left before I chickened out on the curvier bits. The shaved portions were visibly okay from a distance, but none too smooth to the touch. Good news is nothing seeping afterward, and only one tiny bit that felt sensitive to aftershave.
I really think I wanna spend more time figuring out good lather, angle and pressure before having a go around any sharp corners.
Lynn, if you see this, thanks for the (probably best-ever) advice on going in stages and stopping early on the first day.
