Thanked: 1De-lurking from Los Angeles. Hello, folks!
Since I gave up on lurker status to answer a question on japanese while waiting for razors to arrive, I figured I should stop by here to officially say "Hi" and thanks for all the great info for beginners on the site.
So er... Hi, and thanks for all the great info for beginners on the site!
Last day of waiting for me until the bleeding starts -- Should have a stainless Dovo 5/8" and starter kit arriving tomorrow.
Hoping to get all this figured out before my three remaining Mach 3 cartridges or my styptic pencil run out. I figure that gives me a month or two (assuming that it's the cartridges and not the pencil that run out first!!!)

Thanked: 4826Welcome. As a former lurker you will be aware of all the info here already. Not everyone cuts themselves. I think that is mostly fear of the unknown speaking. It will be fine, slow and steady, the object is a close and comfortable shave.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

So if your a lurker before ,you know all the advise given to new shavers, please take some of this very well thought out advise and make your shaving experience a pleasant one lots of stuff you can look up on the library". Also remember to go slow and try to practice your stropping on an old belt with a butter knife ,this is the most important part of maintenance , stropping has been a big one to learn in the beginning so enjoy good luck and take it easy. Welcome from Northern Cal! Enjoy the shave. Just listen to the cautious self (like I didnt) when you're starting out and you won't cut yourself. You can always shave a little more tomorrow, but you can't un-cut yourself.
And if you do, the cuts are so clean that they heal fast. They're like surgical incisions that way!
