Welcome to the most friendly, helpful and informative site on the web!!
If you could narrow your location down a bit it would help! You never know if there is a member just down the block that can help you!
For example I have a friend who lives in Tucson AZ and he could really help you!
Now as to the questions that my friend Ed asked/please share what you have acquired so we can help guide you better!
Enjoy the ride!!! It's a long strange trip, but well worth the journey! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 0Thank you for the friendly salutations. My location is on the border of Gilbert and Mesa. I have done all possible research including multiple videos on the care and strop of my blade. The issue at the moment is I have sharpened the blade enough to cut through a marble pillar yet it is not sharp enough to shave with. The equipment I have is used only once, in conversation I had expressed interest in a straight razor, he immediately purchased a kit. Unable to use it successfully he set it aside. In a following conversation months later I had mentioned that my wife may be purchasing a kit for Christmas, he then offered his kit and I accepted. The blade is a Fromm 72R. The brush is a Escali. The soap and stand are matching wood, Dr. Harris and Co. Arlington shaving bowl. I believe that is the information requested.

Ok, here's the deal. The razor you have seems to be hard to hone but not impossible. I would suggest biting the bullet and send it off to a Pro for honing. Then you will know what a truly shave ready razor will feel like. While I've honed several hundred razors for others I would recommend you send it to my favorite pro/PM me and I'll get you in touch with him.
With proper care and stropping that edge should last you quite some time. During that time, you have more than enough to learn about Stropping, Making Lather, and Learning how to shave with a straight.
One of the biggest problems that I've found is that people 'Presume' that just because they can sharpen a knife, that they can hone a razor. Trust me as a former meat cutter I'll tell you straight out that the difference is Black and White/Night and Day!! Please leave any thoughts of learning to hone for at least a year. Then have at it! By that time you will know so much more!
Thank you for updating your profile, that helps a lot! My friend is only about 100 miles from you and if you are interested I'll see how busy he is these days and hopefully the two of you can get together. Hands on learning is the absolute best way of learning this age old art!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 0Don't know about the strop. Seems to be common. One black strap and one brown I believe it is what has been referred to as hanging. I am unable to find a brand name and the brown side has damage I can only imagine was caused by the previous owner leading with the blade or not flipping on the spine.

Hi and welcome. How badly is the strop damaged. It may be able to be fixed. Maybe a pic of the damage will help us to give better advice. Do send the razor out. Starting with a pro honed edge will give you a benchmark for future reference. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
