Default Hello from Los Angeles California

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm brand spanking new here, haven't even lurked. I found this place originally because I nicked my blade and needed help. I'm probably going to stick around for a while because of how amazingly informative and helpful this place is. I've always been curious about straight razor shaving ever since I ran into a AOS ad a few years back. Finally pulled the trigger on the purchase about a month ago. The first couple shaves were kind of rough, and bloody, haha. But i'm able to get BBS shaves every time now. Now I'm just trying to find out what products work best for me. I don't think I'll ever need another blade. My current TI 5/8 is working super good. Easy cuts and no irritation. I'm looking forward to making it out to some looking meets whenever they pop up.

Hi & welcome to SRP! It's great to see a new member always join the group, especially if you have already started on this great venture. I'm so sorry to hear that you nicked your blade & i hope it isn't too bad. You can send it out to a pro & get it fixed back to good working order if it is only a nick. It would be a good idea to get you a second straight in case something like this happens or if you have to send one out to be honed, you still have a spare to shave with. I hope you have learned to strop well because if shaving with a straight, stropping is the most important thing to know. You can practice using a butter knife so that you don't cut a good strop up but being that you are most likely using one, it doesn't hurt to practice. I hope you have yourself a good strop. Straight Razor Designs is a good place to buy a nice one since they have replacement leather for their strops. You might even want to learn to hone but you can wait for that later down the road. If not, you can always send it out to be honed by a professional honemeister & you'll get it back in shave ready condition. The TI is a great shaver, especially the older ones. I love the older ones myself. It's good to have you here, you enjoy it here, especially one you start interacting with other members. Good luck my friend.

First you tell yourself that you need a spare razor as backup while the other one gets honed. Next you see a razor on ebay that everyone has mentioned for a decent price.

Before you know it you have a collection. Good luck on keeping it a small collection.
May your lather be moist and slick, the sweep of your razor sure, and your edge always keen!
