    Love me the yotas.

Welcome to SRP! I think you'll enjoy it here.

My first and best advise, as the SR fever grips, will be to send out the razors for a pro-honing from the same honer. Shave with one and set the other aside(for a little while, at least), to compare with the current edge of your shaving razor.

Great help is, sometimes, self-help. Check out and read the top level of the site on the left where it says "Helpful Links". Treasure trove, I tell ya. There is a Library as well. Oh, and there's videos This site has single handedly made it possible for someone aspiring to shave with a straight razor to succeed!

    Kind Regards,

    Simon

Let me add that finding a Senior Member near you that would be willing (most are) to sit down with you for a one on one session(s) will add a great deal of info to your education. If you go to Membership (under the Community) at the top of the page, click search members, advanced, and enter locales near you a list of members will come up. Look at the ones with the most current posting times and PM them to see if they can, or know of another member, that can assist you. Unfortunately, you are currently the only member in your city and there aren't any Mentors nearby that I am aware of.

Give it a try, hands on only enriches any reading you will be doing.

Hi and welcome. As said get those razors pro honed. You have the razors but do you have a strop, brush and soap. They are the basics for getting started. Any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome. If I may offer the suggestion that you should perhaps find a nice inexpensive razor to learn with and save your heirloom pieces for when you have finished dropping them and rolling the edges while stropping. They are great to have and use, perhaps just not really for learning. There is no doubt that with a pro hone you should be able to discover why your father used a straight. The gold standard in shaving for a really really long time.

Sean, I am in Diamond Bar , about 20 min away. We have an active group in So Cal and do a lot of informal meets.

PM me and we can meet or you can shoot me the razors and we’ll get you shaving shortly.

For those that don’t know So Cal is not, that spread out, and you can get from the mountains to the sea in about an hour without traffic, with traffic…

Euclid440, thanks for stepping up and letting him know there is a Mentor near him. If I may suggest, get your name on the Local Help List in the Library. When I looked for a Mentor near him I found California not listed at all. PM gugi of Bruno would probably get it done.

Yea, just checked that list… a lot of states are pretty thin. Perhaps we should put out a call to see who else wants to be on it.

I know there are a lot more guys available, than are listed.

I’ll talk with the So Cal guys and we’ll add some names soon.
