Welcome. Gold Dollars are famous for having geometry problems which makes them not an easy choice for honing. Personally I bought nice razors to practice honing on. Nothing crazy expensive, between $40 and $70, they were good german made razors that were free of issues. As a result it left me with learning at a very easy start. They are great razors and have been passed along without any issues.
